DEDICATED TO PROVIDING SMART STRATEGIES FOR FAMILY FARMS

American Cowman is a web site created especially for family farms with up to 100 head of cattle. We aim to be an informative resource for this important segment of the American beef industry. The 2002 Census of Agriculture reported that there are 722,684 beef cow-calf operations with less than 100 head in the U.S. – that is 91% of the total 796,436 cow-calf operations in the country.

Collectively, small beef operations contribute an important share of the U.S. beef supply. Additionally, family farms have been, and continue to be, critical to the stewardship of natural resources and to the leadership and social fabric of rural communities.

The goal of American Cowman is to offer timely, practical production and management strategies that will add efficiency, value, and profitability to cattle herds with up to 100 head.

The Web site will regularly feature a production management “tip of the week,” industry news, new products and spotlight upcoming events, beef industry commentaries, and value added ideas for small family farms. Other special features will include a library of informative articles on facilities, nutrition, animal health, pasture and range management and genetics. Profiles of real producers – just like you – will also be included.

We recognize that the farm and ranch lifestyle is also something to be relished. It’s a great way of life to raise a family, retire, or balance an off-farm job with the rewards of living in the country. To that end we will feature special information and links on everything from beef recipes and consumer trends to farm and ranch related books and even a regular column for ranchers over the age of 50.

Helpful links to breed associations, industry organizations, youth resources, markets and weather, along with an extensive calendar of events, will also be available on American Cowman.

In addition to the website, American Cowman Update, an e-newsletter, will be sent free to subscribers twice a month with management ideas and industry news highlights. To subscribe click on this link: http://subscribe.americancowman.com/subscribe.cfm

The American Cowman Web site and newsletter are brought to you by BEEF magazine with special partnership from Pfizer Animal Health and additional industry sponsors. We look forward to being the premiere information source for small family farms.
